Half Double Crochet Dishcloth Pattern

Sharing is caring!

I’ve had many people looking for a simple and easy to make half double crochet dishcloth pattern, so I figured after about the 20th request to make one finally. (I know it is taking me forever to get around to things this year).

This dishcloth pattern uses only the half double crochet stitch to make a square and then uses the hdc stitch again to make a border.

It is a great beginner-friendly pattern. And also has the bonus of being super quick to stitch up. So if you want to practice the half double crochet or you are looking for a quick pattern to whip up a project in a small amount of time this is perfect.

Notes:

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • The starting chain at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.
  • To change the width you just need to change the length of your initial chain
  • To change the height, change the number of times you do the repeat row
  • The finished size is 8.5” tall  x 8.5” wide
  • For the Foundation chain, you will want to chain loosely, or you can use a bigger hook size for the foundation chain ONLY to help with making bigger chains (recommended only going up .5 mm to 1mm in size)
  • The 1st row of the dishcloth is made in the back bumps of the foundation chain:
