The Harper Blanket is an easy and simple crochet blanket pattern that’s perfect for beginners and a relaxing pattern for experienced crocheters.

This crochet blanket pattern uses double crochet stitches throughout, with simple chain spaces that create a lovely, repeating texture across the blanket. The pattern keeps things clean and structured by starting each row with a small stack of single crochet stitches, giving the edges a straight and polished finish.

If you’re looking for a beginner-friendly crochet project that works up quickly and looks timeless in any color, the Harper Blanket is a perfect choice for cozy evenings and thoughtful handmade gifts.

Tan Crochet Blanket Against a Gray Wall

Notes:

  • This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
  • The finished size is 48” Wide x 58” High (~122 cm wide x 147 cm high)
  • If you want to change the width, the initial foundation chain needs to be a multiple of 12 + 11
  • If you want to change the height, you can change the number of times the repeat rows (rows 4 – 11) are done.
  • Each section of repeat rows (rows 4 – 11) will add about 4 inches (~ 10 cm)
  • The start of the row does NOT use initial turning chains; instead, rows start with a single crochet in the 1st stitch of the row and then another single crochet into the top of that single crochet.
  • Row 1 is worked in the back loop of the Foundation Chain
  • For the Foundation chain, you will want to chain loosely, or you can use a bigger hook size for the foundation chain ONLY to help with making bigger chains (recommended only going up .5 mm to 1mm in size)
  • Swatch: 4 inches x 4 inches = 13 sts x 8 rows of double crochet stitches

Materials:

  • 1932 Yards of a #4 medium-weight yarn.
  • If adding extra repeat sections, each repeat will require another 138 yards of a #4 medium-weight yarn.
  • Yarn Used: 2 skeins of Lion Brand Pound of Love Yarn in the color Sugarcookie
  • 6.0 mm (J) crochet hook
  • Stitch markers (optional)
  • Yarn needle to weave in ends.
  • Scissors

Crochet Abbreviations Used (US Terms):

Starting Stitch for the Double Crochet Rows:

Instead of doing a turning chain, to start a row of double crochet you will turn your work and do a single crochet stitch into the 1st stitch of the row and then do another single crochet into the top of the single crochet you just made.

Doing a single crochet into a single crochet instead of a turning chain at the beginning of the row.
