Since we’re all stuck at home I decided the cat needed a second designated mat. So I made a crochet cat mat for my cats to snuggle up on.
How this started was a while back I wanted something cushy for a throw blanket, about 1 skein of Bernat Blanket Yarn into it and the cat wouldn’t let it go. She demanded on laying on it constantly. So needless to say the throw never got made. The cat has to win of course.
And I discovered it makes a great washable cover for the cat window seat that all the cats in the house love laying on.
Now that we’re all self-isolating I decided it was a good time to make another one, as we have two window cat seats and I wanted another easy-to-wash cover.
But I wanted to make it a bit extra cushy so I did make some adjustments and wrote down what I was doing this time.

So if you’re stuck at home during The Great 2020 Toilet Paper Shortage like me, and want to give your furball quarantine buddy a cushy comfy mat to laze around on, go ahead and whip one up. It doesn’t take too long to make.

Notes:
This crochet pattern is written in US terms.
If you want to change the size the initial chain is multiples of 3 plus 2
Finished size of the crochet cat mat is 24 inches long by 15 inches wide
Materials:
- Bernat Blanket Yarn (1 Skein) 300g/220 yards
- 8.0 mm ( L – 11 ) crochet hook
- Yarn needle to weave in ends.
Crochet Stitches Used:
- Ch – chain
- SC – single crochet
- HDC – half double crochet
- DC – double crochet
Video Tutorial for the Crochet Cat Mat:
Pattern:
Foundation Chain: ch 35
Row 1: sc into 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across, ch 2, turn.
Row 2: [1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc] in first sc, skip next 2 sc, * [1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc] in next sc, skip next 2 sc, repeat from * across, end with 1 sc in top of sc, ch 2, turn.
Rows 3 – 33: repeat Row 2.
Row 34: [1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc] in first sc, skip next 2 sc, * [1 sc, 1 hdc, 1 dc] in next sc, skip next 2 sc, repeat from * across, end with 1 sc in top of sc, ch 1, turn.
Last Row: sc into 1 sc stitch, sc across, fasten off and weave in ends.

what’s the approximate size of the bed? and may I ask how long it took you to crochet?
It is about 24″ long by 15″ wide. It took me just a couple of hours to get this stitched up.

Thank you for this pattern! I just found it today. it will be a perfect gift for my snowbird neighbor’s elderly Chihuahua on their flight home from Phoenix to Alberta CA. They leave in a week, which should allow plenty of time to stitch it up. I’m about halfway done with it already and have to say the pattern is easy to follow. Thanks again!
